Point Hope Maritime Ltd. (A division of the Ralmax Group) has an exciting and immediate vacancy for a full time Purchasing & Materials Manager.  

OVERVIEW

The Purchasing & Materials Manager's primary role will be materials and services procurement for Pt. Hope Shipyards.  Working closely with the Project Managers, the Purchasing & Materials Manager will ensure that materials and services are provided timely as per the production schedule(s) and budget set by the Project Budget, as well as providing general procurement for the Shipyard.

NATURE AND SCOPE

This role is crucial to the smooth operation of a working shipyard. The Purchasing & Materials Manager will interact with vendors and service providers to ensure good business relationships, competitive pricing, and timely delivery of materials and services.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Source, purchase and expedite materials and services as required by Project;
  • Negotiate best "value" for materials and services with suppliers;
  • Accurately issue Purchase Orders as required and enter into Costing System;
  • Ensures that purchase orders are approved and forwarded to vendors and internal stakeholders in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Verifies that orders have been received and agreed to as outlined in the purchase order.
  • Serve as the primary contact for procurement related questions, training, policy and procedure interpretation and alignment by all departments
  • Manage and when necessary update current procurement policies, procedures and programs to ensure compliance with necessary laws
  • Communicate effectively with shop floor personnel as well as Managers;
  • Assist estimating in sourcing materials/services as required for estimating purposes;

 QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post-Secondary education in Supply Chain Management is preferred;
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in Supply Chain Management, Procurement, and Materials;
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in Purchasing in a Marine Environment is considered an asset;
  • Familiarity with ISO 9000 Management Systems and Standards;
  • Excellent file management and time management skills;
  • Ability to resolve conflicts and de-escalate situations and skilled negotiator;
  • Strong organization planning skills and ability to manage multiple complex projects;
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written;
  • Excellent time management, problem-solving, decision-making, organizational, analytical, negotiation and leadership skills.
  • Knowledge of shipbuilding industry is considered an asset;
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Applications;
  • Capable of climbing stairs/ladders on vessels.

HEALTH, SAFETY & ENVIRONMENTAL

  • Familiarity with ISO 14001 Environmental Management System and Standards
