Point Hope Maritime (A Ralmax Group Company) has an exciting and immediate opening for a full-time Quality Assurance Manager in Victoria, British Columbia. Acquired by Ralmax in 2003 Point Hope Maritime is a full-service ship repair facility for vessels from the Canadian Navy, BC Ferries, and other companies. A planned major expansion with construction of a $50-million graving dock has Point Hope's future looking very bright.

The successful candidate will manage the shipyard's Quality Assurance Program including all maintenance processes, procedures, and policies in accordance with ISO standards 9001, 14001 and 45001. This person will be responsible for verifying that these processes follow the ISO standards and other regulatory body approvals as applicable.

The main responsibility of the QA Manager will be to verify compliance through internal and external auditing of quality assurance and control processes and procedures.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and maintain the Quality Management system within the Point Hope Shipyard by reporting, administering, and monitoring actions to prevent non-conformances;
  • Track corrective actions, and coordinate Point Hope personnel to correct the process in order to close the nonconformity;
  • Oversee and administer warranty issues
  • Promote quality and productivity as well as compliance with the company's code of conduct
  • Conduct internal audits;
  • Ensure quality-related procedures, documentation, and forms relating to projects are maintained;
  • Conduct inspections and witness performance tests.
  • Attend scheduled operations meetings, provide input to relevant topics, and update Quality statistics to project and functional management representatives
  • Train staff on quality management procedures, manuals, etc.
  • Liaise with external stakeholders including government officials, vessel owners, owner's representatives, and ISO standards auditors.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or certificate in Quality Assurance is considered an asset;
  • Minimum five years ship building/repair experience
  • Minimum two years in a leadership/supervisory position
  • Ability to coach and mentor less experienced quality personnel is a must;
  • ISO 9001 Internal Auditor certification is considered an asset;
  • Auditing and Quality Assurance experience is a must;
  • Canadian government 'Reliability' Security clearance is considered an asset

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail;
  • Quick learner when presented with new information, systems or procedures;
  • Attitude and aptitude are key;
  • Strong team player willing to help in any administrative role as assigned;
  • Excellent computer skills relating to the creation, modification, and processing of controlled documents;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Positive and proactive attitude in helping to support and improve the shipyard quality system;
  • Able to deal with people tactfully, diplomatically and professionally.

Work Conditions:

  • Physical ability to lift up at least 50lbs (23 kg); and ascend / descend stairs and vertical ladders
  • Able to work in confined space locations (e.g. ships' tanks and voids)
  • Safety equipment is required, e.g. steel-toed safety boots, safety glasses/goggles,
  • Work both indoors and outdoors.
  • Valid BC Drivers licence;
  • Travel to off-site locations may be required;
